Dr. Monique M. Maldonado

Dr. Monique M. Maldonado is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MD Educational Consulting Firm LLC, which provides a unique, academic platform by developing innovative, “pedagogy-forward” practices for government agencies. She is also a veteran, professor, educator, researcher, author, writer, and professional speaker. Dr. Maldonado is Associate Professor for the School of Security and Global Studies at American Public University System/American Military University. She is also the Lead Professor for the School of Graduate and Degree Completion Programs for Tiffin University. Finally, Dr. Maldonado is a former Subject Matter Expert for Tiffin's national security and research courses as well as a former Antiterrorism Instructor for the United States Air Force. She has expertise in homeland security, criminal justice, and public policy, and currently educates in homeland security, national security studies, legal and ethical issues, research design and analysis, and criminal justice fields. In addition to teaching, Dr. Maldonado served as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force and was on active duty for over 13 years in Cyber Security/Knowledge Operations Management/Security Management. Earlier in her career, she had a dual role in Antiterrorism and Security positions. Her experience and interests are in terrorism, homeland security, and national security. One of most prominent positions Dr. Maldonado has held is the Enlisted Military Assistant and Noncommissioned Officer in Charge to the Deputy Secretary of Defense for Secretaries Dr. Ashton Carter, Ms. Christine Fox, and Mr. Robert Work. She was also the Military Executive Assistant to Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Agency Director, LTG John Johnson (retired), as her last assignment on active duty. Dr. Maldonado is a former certified Level II Antiterrorism Instructor and has various certifications in the information assurance, security, antiterrorism, and force protection fields. She has an A.A.S. in Information Resource Management from the Community College of the Air Force, B.A. in Homeland Security from American Military University, Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University, and a career diploma in Private Investigation from Penn Foster College. Dr. Maldonado earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration degree program with a specialization in Terrorism, Mediation, and Peace. Finally, she is pursuing an MBA in Government Contracting and Acquisition through American Military University. She has published 21 articles on military, national security, homeland security, and public policy matters. She is currently a columnist and writer for PA Times magazine and her self-established blog, “The Dr. Mo Show.” Dr. Maldonado was recently selected as a contributor for IN Homeland Security as an expert on homeland security and military matters. Dr. Maldonado credits her motivation and hard-working ethic to her grandmother, Edna Day. Since she was five years old, Dr. Maldonado wanted to be an educator and work in the criminal justice field. Her grandmother inundated her upbringing with the importance of hard work and earning an education. She has submersed herself in being a lifetime learner and is a great example for her 10-year-old daughter, Araceli, who wants to be a veterinarian. Dr. Maldonado also gives recognition to her mentor, Secretary of Defense, Dr. Ash Carter, who inspired her to earn a doctoral degree and educate not only college students, but also her sisters and brothers in service. Dr. Carter is a great role model and has been instrumental in Dr. Maldonado’s military and professional careers. She hopes to achieve her next goal one day and that is to follow in his footsteps and become Secretary of Defense.
